The Full Day dance program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to continue dancing throughout the summer months with emphasis on dance and performance related activities. Summerdance is a fun, low key experience, with lots of different movement activities including weekly performances.

Beginner/Intermediate levels, ages 6-10 and 11-14 years.
Session 1: July 9th – 13th
Session 2: July 16th – 20th
Session 3: July 23rd – 27th
Session 4: July 30th- August 3rd 
Session 5: August 6th – 10th
Session 6: August 13th – 17th
(Students may register for any number of weeks)

When we arrived, I gathered with my esteemed colleagues as
my daughter, Ally, mingled with her classmates. The kids were giddy, as usual,
practicing, joking around, and helping each other with their required hair
buns. I was happy to spend a few casual moments catching up with Miss Ellen and
Vittoria, who both were more than excited to be there for their students of the
present and years past. As we entered the studio, I wasn’t sure if I should
take a seat among the parents, but Sy had reserved a seat for me among the
faculty, so I proudly accepted.

As I watched the groups enter the studio and face Mignon and
her husband, judging behind the table, I noticed the fear and tension on the
dancers’ faces. They were certainly nervous while waiting for the music to
start. But there is one thing that all JLDC dancers can do without fail, and
that is to perform under pressure. And I can assure you, that is what they did!
As the music commenced, I watched each group own what they had worked so hard
to achieve. Confidence grew with each element that the students performed. A
tense port de bras gradually softened, leading to a more flowing adage, then a
fierce allegro, until finally, a confident and beautiful solo dance variation
was performed by each student. It was truly an amazing transformation to
witness.

As a teacher, I couldn’t have been more thrilled to see the
babies I once taught first position by instructing them to kiss their heels
together and make a letter V with their feet. They were now proficient in their
designated levels of ballet and performing beautifully under pressure. I was so
proud to be sitting among such an amazing faculty and to think that I had
played a role in many of these students’ early dance training.

As a parent, I couldn’t have been more proud and pleased.
When my daughter began her training at JLDC, it was convenient to bring her to
work with me and I was just glad that she wanted to wear a leotard and ballet
slippers. But I remember the night that she sat on the stage at the end of a
spring recital, staring up at the graduating seniors in utter admiration. She
told me that she wanted to be one of them some day. I knew that evening that
this was not only a school that instilled in its students a passion for dance,
but also one that provided endless support from teachers and infinite
friendships among students. These factors drive JLDC students to achieve, not
just as individuals, but also as a family.

No one was disappointed that night. Every student was a
winner and congratulated one another. If you were there, you will agree that
there was an overwhelming feeling of togetherness among the students. It was as
if this seemingly individual competition was actually a team effort and
accomplishment. Every parent, every faculty member, and every student beamed with
pride on Friday. Congratulations to the JLDC students and faculty, a family my
daughter and I are honored to be part of.

- The JLDC Team

I am new to the area  from Saint Augustine, Florida where I started dancing at the age of 5. I am trained in many different styles of dance with ballet as my main focus. I am in fact a “bunhead.” I took lessons at my studio as well as with private instructors in my area. I attended college in Florida where I graduated with a degree in Dance Studio Management from Florida School of the Arts in 2009. I danced with the Saint Augustine Ballet from 2009 to 2011.

This past summer I participated in the Atlanta Ballet’s Summer intensive, during the six weeks I took many dance classes including Ballet, Graham, Horton and even Hip Hop! We took class from some of the best dancers on the planet and got to work with the Company in class as well as in their rehearsals! It was one of the best experiences of my life. I even got to meet Twyla Tharp!

Then I decided it was time to head to Boston!

After a short “break” from dance I have realized that I can’t live without it! I was very fortunate to come in contact with JLDC and could not be happier to be back in the dance studio.

I am looking forward to getting to know you all!
