Mignon Furman visits JLDC!

Friday, February 12th

Students and teachers  have been working diligently in preparation for their first visit from American Academy of Ballet, Director Mignon Furman.

Ms Furman has developed a gentle, sound and systematic way for students to learn the study of ballet correctly and joyfully. JLDC Upper School Ballet Mistress, Seo Yeon Hong who will facilitate the program  has studied, adjudicated and is an Affiliate of the Academy of Ballet program.  Our first group of students with prepared compositions to be evaluated by Ms Furman will take place on Friday, Feb 12th 2010 at the studio at  4:30pm.

Come dressed in your Finest Fairy Attire and meet the Sugarplum Fairy and Clara! This class will feature music, movement, games and a story from the most beloved children’s ballet classic, Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite”. Children will enjoy refreshments and a take home treat!

It’s “Pinkalicious"Ballet Day

Saturday, January 9th 10-11:00 am.

Miss Ashly is ticked pink to present a Free "Pinkalicious" ballet class at the Newton Public Library for ages 2-5 from 10:00-11:00AM. Come meet Pinkalicious and dance with pink tutus, tiara’s, wands and scarves from Pinkalicious’s pink toy box. Bring your child in…PINK! Your child can pretend to be Pinkalicious or even Pinkerbelle! The storybook ballet class will begin with a story reading, and ballet movement in costume. The goal of the “Pinkalicious Ballet Class” is to allow young children to experience age-appropriate "story ballets" through music and movement.  No prior dance training necessary.

JLDC alumni Shir Inbar (18) and Julia Planine-Troiani (24) are spending the semester studying with an Israeli Contemporary Dance Company.

"We have 4 performances so far and one of them is for the president of Israel which is really exciting! We are also opening for the company and performing a piece with them in their opening show of the year in their BEAUTIFUL theater which is so exciting." Shir Inbar

So You Think You Can Dance? 8/1/09
JLDC students traveled with their teachers to New York City this summer training with master teachers, Mia Michaels, Wade Robson, Tyce Diorio, Shane Sparks, Joey Dowling, Cris Judd, Dave Scott and Laurie Ann Gibson.

ADA National Competition 7/1/09
National Recognition!

Students Shir Inbar (17), Marisa Cohen (16) and Caroline Leong (13) were awarded special recognition, performance opportunities and scholarships at the ADA National Competition held in Hollywood, Florida and the Pulse Dance Convention in NYC.
